Ashland Poetry Press Announces Prize Winners

Richard Snyder Publication Prize: Christine Gelineau, of Windsor, New York, won the 2004 Richard Snyder Publication Prize for Remorseless Loyalty.  She received $1,000.  Her collection of poems will be available from the Ashland Poetry Press in February 2006.  The 2003 Richard Snyder Publication Prize winner, The Moment’s Equation, by Vern Rutsala (published in December 2004), was a finalist for the 2005 National Book Award.  The Richard Snyder Prize is given for a book-length poetry collection. (See Grants & Awards.)  Robert McGovern Publication Prize: Maria Terrone and Nathalie F. Anderson are the co-winners of the 2005 Robert McGovern Publication Prize, awarded to poets over the age of forty who have published no more than one book.  Terrone won for her collection of poems, A Secret Room in Fall (nominated by Gerry LaFemina), and Anderson for her book of poems, Crawlers (nominated bv Eamon Grennan).  There is no application process, and no entry fee.  Eligible manuscripts are sent to the press by a nominating panel.  The competition is judged by Ashland Poetry Press editors.  Terrone and Anderson each received $500.  Their books will each appear in paper editions of 1,000 copies in 2006.
