Oregon Literary Fellowships Recipients Announced

March 1, 2006

Literary Arts is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2005 Oregon Literary Fellowships to writers and to publishers. The judges named eighteen writers and three publishers to receive grants that range in value from $500 to $3,000. The recipients will be celebrated at a reception in March 2006. These fellowships help writers who seek funds to initiate, develop, or complete a project in the genres of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama, and young readers literature. This year’s fellowships were judged by a panel consisting of Michael Annis, James Earl Hardy, and Debra Marquart; young readers literature was judged by Edward Bloor. Winners in Poetry: Megan Kruse, Keetje Kuipers, and Judith H. Montgomery.  Winners in Fiction: Mir Emampoor,  Laila Lalami, Caleb McKenzie, Katie Schneider, and Bo Yu. Winners in Literary Nonfiction: Sarah Gianelli, Gail Robinson, Seth Clark Walker, and Lamont E. Wilkins. Winners in Drama: Sandra K. Ellston, and George Taylor. Winners in Young Readers Literature: J.M. Bedell, Celeste M. O’Dell, and Laura Whitcomb. Out-of-state judges are instructed to select recipients using literary merit as the sole criterion. The categories poetry, fiction, nonfiction and drama are selected by a panel; young readers literature and publisher recipients are selected by single judges. All judges have the option of making no award; in all cases these decisions are final. There is no screening of the applications. 2005 Judges include Michael Annis, Supriya Bhatnagar, Edward Bloor, James Earl Hardy, and Debra Marquart.
