October 2009 Deemed National Arts & Humanities Month

December 1, 2009

The White House has named October 2009 National Arts & Humanities Month, according to the Americans for the Arts website. President Obama’s proclamation, released by the White House, notes the value of the arts and humanities to our nation and their power to enrich lives by crossing and bridging cultural divides. “It is the painter, the author, the musician, and the historian whose work inspires us to action, drives us to contemplation, stirs joy in our hearts, and calls upon us to consider our world anew,” the presidentially-signed statement read. “The arts and humanities contribute to the vibrancy of our society and the strength of our democracy, and during National Arts and Humanities Month, we recommit ourselves to ensuring all Americans can access and enjoy them.” Activities will be coordinated by Americans for the Arts along with Art21, the official partner of National Arts and Humanities Month.
