Mitt Romney on the NEA and NEH
November 23, 2011
According to cnsnews.com, Mitt Romney has expressed that, if elected president of the United States, he would eliminate federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities.
“Look, I really like the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting,” he said, “but I will not borrow almost $1 billion a year from China to pay for them.”
He added that such measures are intended to help simplify the federal government and unburden some of its spending habits by eliminating programs or sending programs back to the states’ control.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Romney would not completely eliminate the NEA, NEH, and two other agencies, but he does plan to slash their funding in half.
