The AWP HBCU Fellowship Program will have a lot to offer at #AWP24 in Kansas City—not just to our wonderful faculty and student fellows, but to all conference attendees!

On Thursday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m. CT, supporters of the program are invited to stop by the AWP HBCU Fellowship Program reception, located in Basie B on the second level of the Marriott Kansas City Downtown. There you can enjoy refreshments and connect with authors, students, and readers of Black literature. Be sure to meet the #AWP24 fellows and their creative advisor, Rion Amilcar Scott!

On Friday, February 9 at 10:35 a.m. CT, don’t miss the anticipated event “Many Moseses, Many Promised Lands Unseen: A Lecture by Rion Amilcar Scott.” Join this year’s creative advisor as he dives into the legacy that HBCUs have left on the face of literature—and stay after the lecture for a book signing! The event will be in room 2503AB, Kansas City Convention Center, level 2.

And as a testament to the growth that the HBCU Fellowship Program is already fostering, former faculty fellow Tommy Mouton will be featured on a panel organized by #AWP23 creative advisor A. J. Verdelle! Join us on Friday, February 9 at 3:20 p.m. CT for “Where Is the Door? What Can We Carry Inside?,” a discussion that covers the “continuum of issues facing writers of color and student writers of color—from ‘genius moments’ as creatives to ‘unaware and invisible’ looking for opportunities.” The event will be in room 2207, Kansas City Convention Center, street level.
