Pride Month Literary Events 2023

All events take place in ET. 

 

Thursday, June 1

6:00–7:30 p.m.— Hosts La Verne and Kim present an LGBTQ Womyn of Color Gathering.  All LGBTQ+ women of color are welcome! This event will take place online and offers free registration to participants.

7:00–8:00 p.m.— Join ELJ Editions and Redacted Books for: The Be Well Reading Series' Celebration of Pride Month. Nicole Tallman will host this event and this series will feature authors Steve Bellin-Oka, Caridad Moro-Gronlier, and Dior J. Stephens. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.

 

Tuesday, June 6

1:30–2:30 p.m.— Feeling stressed out? Need to unwind? Come to the LGBTQ+ Evening Meditation Group for Pride Month. This exclusively LGTBQ+ space is perfect for beginner meditators to practice in a safe space. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.

 

Wednesday, June 7

7:00–8:00 p.m.— The Bartlett presents Inclusive Spaces: LGBTQIA+ Places and Stories. Meet the editors of ‘Queer Spaces’ and join for a discussion on LGTBQIA+ history throughout the years. Speakers include Adam Nathaniel Furman, Joshua Mardell, Jordana Ramalho, and Lo Marshall. Event attendees can expect to examine projects featured in the publication, and discuss and reflect on the process of working with a community of contributors to research and uncover stories of LGBTQIA+ spaces. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.

 

Thursday, June 8

7:00–8:30 p.m.— Find a new Pride Month read through Pride Book Club - Brampton, Caledon, & Mississauga Libraries. Attendees should come prepared to discuss Making Love with the Land by Joshua Whitehead. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.

 

Sunday, June 11

2:30–4:00 p.m.— Come out for an online cabaret featuring poetry, music, and more! Together! with Regard for LGBTQI+ Pride Month is one event you will want to make sure you do not miss. Performers include Clare Summerskill, Mx Dennis Queen, Vince `Laws, Vron McIntyre, DL Williams, and Jamie Hale. Sign language interpretations and captions will be available. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.

 

Monday, June 12

6:00–7:00 p.m.— The Detroit Public Library presents LGBTQ+ Pride Month: Art|Pride With The Detroit Institute of Arts. This presentation features LGTBQ+ artists who have shattered stereotypes and endured discrimination and prejudice. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.  

 

Wednesday, June 21

3:00 p.m.— Join the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives for ALBA Pride Month Book Talk: Lorca After Life, featuring Author Noël Valis In Conversation With Professor Jeffrey Zamostny. Learn about the relatively short but full life esteemed writer Federico García Lorca lived. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.

 

Tuesday, June 27

5:00–6:00 p.m.— Compass Family Services presents Stronger Together: Intersectional Exploration of LGBTQ+ History. Learn about the history and origins of the Pride movement, why it is celebrated in June, and more. This session will be led by activist and innovator Gerald Garth. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
