Thursday, April 20
2 p.m.— Discuss novels set in the Toronto area with Toronto in Literature Book Club (Online): More. Attendees will be discussing More by Austin Clarke, winner of the 2009 Toronto Book Award. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
Friday, April 21
8—9:30 p.m.— In honor of National Poetry Month, make time for Rewriting Feminisms: Trans Women Poetry Reading. Join many trans Canadian women writers for a short panel, reading, and Q&A session. Attending poets include Trish Salah, Jennifer Wenn, Misha Pensato, Katrina Stephany, and Sofie Vlaad. Admission is free, and this event will take place online.
Saturday, April 22
11 a.m.— Sharpen your writing skills with another installment of Mytecia's Virtual Writer's Café! All writing backgrounds are welcome to attend. Get inspired, share your work, and learn tips and tricks from seasoned writers. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
12 p.m.— Off Topic publishing presents their 2023 Off Topic Poetry Workshop. In honor of National Poetry Month, attend a series of workshops all about poetry. Some workshop themes include mental health, joy, and podcasting. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
Tuesday, April 25
Noon— Atheneum of Philadelphia presents Books with Beth: The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan. You won’t want to miss the vibrant discussion surrounding this bestselling author and #AWP23 panelist’s novel! Explore the convergence of motherhood and dystopia. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
5 p.m.— Know a young one who loves poetry? Join Longleaf Press for More With Less: Exploring Short Form Poetry (A Workshop with Larry Sorkin), recommended for grades 6—12. This workshop is part of the 2023 Longleaf Press Writing Mentorship Program. The organizer asks that attendees make a donation to secure their ticket(s).
Wednesday, April 26
7—8 p.m.— The EFA Houston chapter presents Publishing Entrepreneurship with John W. Warren. Attendees can expect to learn about business structures, value propositions, and professional identities of publishing freelancers. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
7:30 p.m.— The Academy of American poets presents Poetry & the Creative Mind — a National Poetry Month gala fundraiser. This event will feature artists, authors, actors, and creatives from across the board. Hosted by Richard Blanco, and Kimiko Hahn, speakers include Andrew Bird, Alan Cumming, Ethan Hawke, Emily Igwike, National Student Poet, Daniel Dae Kim,Eric Kim, Ada Limón, U.S. Poet Laureate, J?ohn Lithgow, Shantell Martin, Liam Neeson, Molly Shannon, and Malala Yousafzai. 8 p.m.— Join Austin Public Library for another session of Virtual Older Adult Bookclub. Readers ages 50 and over are invited to discuss Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club. Registration is free, and this event will take place online.
