#AWP21 Conference Update

May 26, 2020

We can all agree this has been a year like no other! The Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic has changed us in unimaginable ways. At AWP, we are using this turn of events to imagine what is possible in the virtual space in response to the needs of all of our stakeholders.

Many members and attendees have been wondering what the next conference will look like. We are considering two options: a hybrid meeting, comprising in-person and virtual programming, or the possibility the conference may be completely virtual. We continue to research technology options, network with other organizations that host large-scale events, and are reviewing existing contracts to make this important decision.

While this decision is pending, we are unable to open the event proposal system for #AWP21. If a virtual conference is the best option to keep our attendees safe for #AWP21, the promised inclusion of nearly 250 panels and featured events that have been deferred from San Antonio will prevent the addition of new panels. Though we will not be opening our event proposal system in this case, we are working to create many other opportunities to participate in a hybrid or virtual conference. We are excited about the possibilities for the new AWP conference experience!

Watch for conference updates in our weekly enewsletter.

Warm regards,
Cynthia Sherman
