Black Ocean to Publish Future Gramma Press Titles

February 6, 2019

Gramma logoBoston-based independent publisher Black Ocean announced on January 31 that it will be distributing all books currently in print under Gramma Press, a Seattle-based independent producer of poetry books, and reissuing backlist Gramma Press titles as part of its future catalogue.

Black Ocean, whose authors include Elisa Gabbert, Nathaniel Mackey, Brandon Shimoda, Tomaž Šalamun, and Julie Doxsee, will handle all printing, distribution, and publicity for Gramma, which, according to Gramma’s site, was established in 2016 “to have a positive impact on the way people interact with poetry, making it as visible, accessible, and diverse as possible.” Since 2016, Gramma Press has published books by Sadie Dupuis, Stacey Tran, Sarah Galvin, and others, and has also held an interdisciplinary and collaborative galley space for events, though the joint statement published to Black Ocean’s site notes its long hiatus.

“Gramma would like to thank everyone who has been a part of their project,” the statement concludes, “and together, we hope that you will continue to follow and support Gramma’s authors at their new home with  Black Ocean.”
