Construction at the Oregon Convention Center
January 30, 2019
AWP has been made aware of a renovation project at the Oregon Convention Center over the days of #AWP19, March 27–30, 2019. The project will affect the outdoor North Plaza on the northeast corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Holladay Street, adjacent to the MAX Convention Center station. Because of this construction, the MAX Convention Center Westbound station will be closed for the duration of #AWP19. The Rose Quarter MAX Station will remain open and is approximately 500 feet from the entrance closest to the Registration area in the Oregon Convention Center. There is ongoing renovation of the MLK, Jr. Lobby inside of the Oregon Convention Center, in addition to the pre-function area outside of the "C" meeting rooms on the West Side, that will have little impact on movement throughout the building.
We are concerned about the overall impact of this project on the conference, so we are working closely with the Oregon Convention Center (OCC) to stay apprised of all updates. The AWP conference management team and AWP board members are visiting the site in late February to assess the status of the project, and to make any necessary adjustments to our plans. The OCC and Travel Portland have committed to working with us to mitigate any issues in the construction areas that would directly impact attendees. They will provide additional resources as needed, including additional signage and greeters to help direct attendees.
AWP is committed to keeping #AWP19 attendees updated on the status of this renovation project. We will continue to post updates to our website and social media outlets, and send email updates periodically to all those registered for the conference.
