Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence Longlist
Writers, 24 in fiction and 23 in nonfiction, have been named to the longlist for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence, “established in 2012 to recognize the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published in the U.S. the previous year. The winners (one for fiction, one for nonfiction) are announced at an event at the ALA Midwinter Meeting; winning authors receive a $5,000 cash award, and two finalists in each category receive $1,500.” -
The New York Times Style Magazine’s “A Picture and a Poem” Series
The most recent entry caught our editor’s eye. The series, which has been run in the magazine since February of 2013, currently features a poem by Nick Flynn and a print by Catherine Opie, both envisioning the afterlife. -
The University of Georgia Press Offers “Vantastic” Sale
The Press is offering what it is calling a “Vantastic Lemonade Sale” on select books to make up for losses incurred when books were not available at the recent Decatur Book Festival. Among the titles on sale are recent AWP Award Series–winning books by Sarah Einstein and Sarah Gorham. Thirty percent off; how can you go wrong? The sale ends October 3.
