Some things that caught our attention this week:

  • Lisa Lucas, previously the publisher of Guernica, was named executive director of the National Book Foundation. “Readers are everything, readers are everyone,” Lucas said. “It should be about building one big massive audience that’s reflective of where we live.”

  • The Late Show with Stephen Colbert hosted rapper Macklemore to perform “White Privilege II,” and three poets performed with him: Nikkita Oliver, Danez Smith, and Jamila Woods.

  • Grace Schulman was awarded the Robert Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America.

  • Andrew Glaze, Poet Laureate of Alabama and Pulitzer Prize nominee, passed away at age 95. He was elected to the Alabama Writers’ Hall of Fame last year.
