The 80th Anisfield-Wolf Book Award Winners Announced
September 9, 2015
Winners of this year’s Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards are Jericho Brown (The New Testament), Marilyn Chin (Hard Love Province), Richard S. Dunn (A Tale of Two Plantations), Marlon James (A Brief History of Seven Killings), and David Brion Davis, who is honored with a lifetime achievement award.
Administered by the Cleveland Foundation, “[t]he Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards recognize books that have made important contributions to our understanding of racism and our appreciation of the rich diversity of human cultures. For over 80 years, the distinguished books earning Anisfield-Wolf prizes have opened and challenged our minds.”
A live stream of the award ceremony will begin on September 10 at 6:00 p.m. EST, for those who would like to take part remotely, as the event is sold out. If you are in the Cleveland area, four of the winners will be giving talks this week in locations throughout the city. Links to details can be found on the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards’ homepage.
The jury for the awards includes Henry Louis Gates, Jr., as chair, and Rita Dove, Joyce Carol Oates, Steven Pinker, and Simon Schama.
