Twitterature?

September 1, 2009

Two University of Chicago students have inked a deal with Penguin Books to deliver seventy-five classic novels and plays as Twitterature, the Chicago Tribune reports. Alex Aciman and Emmett Rensin, nineteen-year-old roommates, are rewriting works by Dante, Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, and other masters in twenty or fewer 140-character tweets. “Imagine if Achilles had a Twitter account and an iPhone, and he was telling his story in real time,” Aciman said. “That’s what this book is going to be like.” Rensin added, “It’s like (CliffsNotes), but funnier—it reflects the narcissistic nature of Twitter.” Twitterature: The World’s Greatest Books, Now Presented in Twenty Tweets or Less is expected out this fall.
