B&N To Print Out-of-Print Books

October 1, 2009

Barnes & Noble has begun printing out-of-print books, Publishers Weekly reports. The bookseller and publisher recently launched Barnes & Noble Rediscovers, an effort designed to reprint out-of-print-books with new cover designs. Thirty-three titles are available now by authors such as Owen Barfield, Norman Cohn, Loren Eiseley, and Ted Hughes. According to a company spokesperson, B&N will pick titles based on customer requests and feedback and on its editors’ instincts. Marcus Leaver, president of B&N’s publishing arm, Sterling Publishing, spoke about the new imprint: “The Barnes & Noble Rediscovers series opens a new door for us and a new window for writers and estates who have earned no income on their works for years. We plan to expand the capabilities of the program to include both e-book and print on demand options.” According to the spokesperson, electronic and print on demand books will be available “in due course.”
