October 1, 2009

Allison Joseph has been chosen to receive the inaugural Aquarius Press Legacy Award. The prize is given “to spotlight a woman writer of color from the Midwest who has yet to gain high exposure and who is also actively involved in providing opportunities for other writers.” Ms. Joseph directs the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and has served AWP as a board member. In addition to a cash prize, the 2010 issue of Reverie: Midwest African American Literature will be dedicated to her work. Aquarius Press, a Detroit-based publisher, will honor Ms. Joseph on October 3 at its 10th anniversary celebration.
