Chase Twichell Wins the 2011 Kingsley Tufts Award

Chase TwichellOn April 28, at the Garrison Theatre in Claremont, CA, Chase Twichell received the prestigious Kinglsey Tufts Poetry Award of $100,000 for her book Horses Where the Answers Should Have Been. The Kingsley Tufts, the nation’s largest monetary prize, established in 1992, is given annually to a mid-career poet who has yet to reach his or her pinnacle. Previous winners include Matthea Harvey, Yusef Komunyakaa, and Linda Gregerson. Judges for this year’s award were Linda Gregerson and Carl Phillips, among others.

Twichell has published six previous books of poetry. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Guggenheim Foundation, and a Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Poet, Atsuro Riley will also be honored with the Kate Tufts Discovery Award of $10,000 for his book Romey’s Order.
