University of Evansville Opens Department of Creative Writing

June 6, 2011

The University of Evansville in Indiana announced that it has established a new Department of Creative Writing to house its BA in Writing and BFA in Creative Writing degree programs. Faculty for the new department includes Paul Bone (chair), William Baer, Margaret McMullan, and Robert Griffith.

“The University of Evansville already holds the distinction of being one of a few schools in the country to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing,” said Bone. “The new department will increase students’ opportunities to learn about the profession of writing and editing by working on publications, attending conferences, and networking with successful writers and editors.”

Approximately eighty students are already enrolled in the department, which was formerly part of the English department. The literary journals The Evansville Review, Measure, and The Ohio River Review will all move to the Department of Creative Writing.
