A Poet's Endearing Self-Promotion

July 8, 2011

Heather Christle’s second collection of poetry, entitled The Trees The Trees, was released on July 1 alongside an announcement on her website: “Call me and I will read one (a poem) to you.” Christle, to celebrate and promote her new book, has posted her phone number and a list of all the poems from The Trees The Trees. From July 1 through July 14 she encourages fans to call her, pick a poem, and listen to her read it over the phone.

One week into the promotion, she’s been updating her site with comments on the unique reading requests she’s received so far: a couple from Toronto requested to hear a love poem, a classroom in Massachusetts called in, and even a couple of radio programs (one from the BBC World Service) have called and broadcast the reading/conversation.

To see her phone answering schedule, a list of her poems, and to read her updates as the promotion continues, visit: http://thetreesthetrees.tumblr.com/. If you’re there before July 14, try giving her a call!
