The NEA Announces Grant for AWP

May 17, 2011

Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, has announced that AWP will receive a grant of $80,000. The grant will support AWP’s magazine, the Writer’s Chronicle, and its website for writers, teachers, and students. AWP is just one of over 1,000 nonprofit organizations receiving one of the NEA’s second round of fiscal year grants in 2011. Overall, the NEA will distribute more than $88 million to support non-profit arts organizations nationwide.

“NEA research shows that three out of four Americans participate in the arts,” said Landesdman. “The diverse, innovative, and exceptional projects funded in this round will ensure that Americans around the country continue to have the opportunity to experience and participate in the arts.”

The National Endowment for the Arts was created by Congress in 1965 in order to support artistic excellence. Since then, the NEA has awarded over $4 billion to those involved in the arts.
