Set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, a new film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular, mythic Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maquire as protagonist Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. The film looks to take a dramatic turn from the mild 1974 production, which starred Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. The new version, directed by Baz Luhrmann, who also did 2001’s Moulin Rouge, is purportedly a flashier take on the novel about the tragedy of lavish Roaring Twenties lifestyles.
