American Writers Museum Likely to be Built in Chicago
In late September, the American Writers Museum Foundation announced that it had received a significant grant from the Chicago Community Trust for the development and construction of the country’s first national museum for writers and America’s literary culture and history. The next steps involve studies to determine a proper site for the museum, economic feasibility evaluations, analysis of resident and tourist markets, potential revenue sources, and facility needs. Baltimore’s Edgar Allan Poe House May See New Life
On September 28, after thirty-three years in operation, the Edgar Allan Poe House in west Baltimore was closed. Less than one week later, the Baltimore Sun reported that the city of Baltimore agreed to pay $180,000 to the B&O Railroad Museum in order to develop plans to make the Poe House into a self-sufficient tourist attraction.
