Julie Schumacher is the author of nine books, including The Body Is Water -- an ALA Notable Book of the Year and a PEN/Hemingway Award Finalist -- and Dear Committee Members, winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor.  Her short fiction and essays have appeared in The New York Times, the Atlantic Monthly, the Wall Street Journal, MS, The Best American Short Stories, the O.Henry Awards, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and other magazines.  She is a faculty member and the director of the Creative Writing MFA program at the University of Minnesota/Twin Cities.
